Border Collies have successfully preserved the best of their qualities and remained working dogs up to modern times. Does the Border Collie possess special skills when herding sheep? Very definitely. The Border Collie has a lot of talents, mesmerizing animals and fetching them to a shepherd are among the most famous ones. The Border Collie has to be taught some commands though. Many trainers prefer to whistle instead of directing a Border Collie by the means of voice. In the midst of all the bleating, whistling works better than voice. Besides, whistling does not carry any emotions along with the command.
Some handlers work with more than one Border Collie. It follows that the handler should coin special commands for each dog. Otherwise, Border Collies, working in cooperation, will not grasp which of them is the recipient of the command and will perform the same command in a dual task situation.
