Border Collie Name

The Border Collie Name has been around since the beginning of the 20th century. This dog was registered by the International Sheep Dog Society (ISDS), and it should not be confused with the Collie registered by the Kennel Club. Although the Kennel Club Collie performs similar functions, he is very different from the Border Collie.

Border Collies are believed to have originated near English-Scottish border. This region had long been famous for its ancient sheep-keeping traditions, so shepherd dogs had long been used to help man drive cattle. The Border Collie was bred in such a way as to develop a strong liking to the job, which required tremendous energy, infinite devotion, superb intelligence and striking endurance. These traits have been cultivated for decades, so today the Border Collie Name is associated in dog fanciers’ hearts with ever-burning energy, never-ending desire to please their loved ones and tremendous stamina.

As a result, Border Collies require large amounts of physical and mental stimulation. Like a car that cannot work without fuel, these dogs cannot do without activity. Bored Border Collies get depressed easily, and many dogs tend to become extremely destructive or aggressive. The Border Collie is no good option for people who lead sedentary lives. However, they make excellent companions for active people who spend most of their time playing with their Collies. Border Collies are much better off when they have a chance to exercise their natural driving abilities; therefore, they do better in the countryside than in the city. The Border Collie Name has a strong presence in dog showing traditions in various countries, because these dogs show good results in agility trials.

Because breeders have placed emphasis upon the dog’s working abilities, their appearance does not seem to be their primary concern. As a rule, Border Collies are medium-sized dogs, and they may have different types of coat. Coat color is diverse too, white-and-black being the most common one. There are also white-and-red and white-and-tan and tri-color species. The ears may be either erectile or pendulous. Eyes can be both dark brown and blue. Conformation dog breeders tend to be stricter as to the dog’s appearance. They emphasize the dog’s facial expression as one of the basic criterions of Border Collie breeding. The Border Collie is prone to some genetic diseases, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, epilepsy, Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), etc. The Border Collie Name is known with many registries throughout Europe and Americas.
